When he left Vienna in 1912 his departure went unnoticed. After all, why should a great Imperial capital be concerned with the departure of a failed artist and a vagabond? He wouldn't return to Vienna until the spring of 1938 where he was hailed as a living god with thousands of Viennese citizens crying out his name because Germany, as they understood it, was finally free and united. The unknown son of an Austrian custom official and now Chancellor and Fuhrer of the German Reich, Adolf Hitler, succeeded where traditional politicians and royal houses failed.
